Ferrer Bobet - Introduction:

Visiting the vineyard it takes you a completely different dimension from the signposts to the cellars which aimed to integrate the personality of the building maintaining the elegance and austerity of the wine brand itself. Driving thought the narrow roads for more than 30 minutes from Tarragona, slowly a building raises from the mountain. It stretches towards to the unknown but in the meantime blends perfectly well with the terroir. It looks like a spaceship ready to take off. The winery and the technical installations are largely underground, hidden away beneath the rugged hillside. " Only the upper area, housing the entrance, bottling, dispatch and visitors area can be seen against the mountainous horizon." The whole building and architecture design are resonating the landscape. It is all about respect. Respecting the long tradition of wine-growing and wine-making in Priorat. This mutual respect between the two wine makers Sergi Ferrer -Salat and Raul Bobet has been born. Both are passionate about their own world and the culture of the wine. Retro lines of furniture with the modern finishes brings us back to the 70's. Stylish but not overdone interior design emphasizes the calmness of indoor. The main tasting room is surrounded by glasses which provides a beautiful view over the vineyards. This unique experience can be enjoyed by many.

Ferrer Bobet is located in the Porrera region with a beautiful surrounding that boosts a number of advantage for the viticulture and which in fact pivotal in the decision to opt for these lands. The vineyards were planted near to the winery in 2004 and 2005 with Carinyena, Garnatxa Negra, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier and Roussane. These wines stand on the slopes and narrow terraces which were carefully selected after exhaustive edaphological and adaptability studies. For each variety, they only use low vigour rootstocks and clone, aiming for perfectly balanced wines.

Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial 2013: As many of the recent tasting notes mentioned that Ferrer Bobet truly respects Organic Farming and they do not use any type of insecticide or herbicide. Harvesting by hand selecting the berries carefully, passed through the selection table twice and transported the grapes into a small 10kg crates. The fermentation takes place into small oak wats * see the pictures where vinification of each plot has done separately. Ferrer Bobet Selection Especial undergoes 18 months ageing in medium toasted French Oak Barrel. Carinena is the protagonist in Priorat showing a versatile faces blackberry, black cherry characteristics with aromatic flower notes which reflects purity and depth from the Organic Vineyard. Medium (+) in body combined with medium acidity. Powerful and well-balanced finish.

Ferrer Bobet 2014: Opposite to Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial 2013, the wine is a blend of 4 different grape varieties: Carinena (48%), Granacha Negra (23 %) Syrah (23%) and Cabarnet Sauvignion (7%). Despite being a young wine shows strength and elegance. Typical blackberry, black cherry flavours, hint of spices, combined with bright and sophisticated aromas. Medium to medium (+) bodied wine is displaying intense notes. Sleek and seductive wine with medium finish. This wine has been fermented in tanks which has from 15-30 hl capacity. The containers are made of diverse materials such as wood, stainless steel and cement. Before being bottled the wine has a rest in French Oak for 9 months, 60% of the barrels are new French Oak.

How to get there: You can approach the vineyard from Tarragona which takes you about 40 minutes to get the property. From Falset *see under the note Priorat , takes only 13 minutes. The easiest way to use local taxi service either in Reus or Falset.
