Clos Magador - Introduction
At the end of 1970's René came to Priorat to search for an ideal place for his family to settle. After 10 years hard work he harvested his first grapes, using the latest technology and also built a deep and strong relationship with the terroir itself, paid attention to every little details. He focuses on biodiversity by planting fruit tees, almond alongside with olive trees. "Nature belongs to everyone". His dedication paid off as his wine collection is one of the most rewarded wine from Priorat. There is a small family - run winery shows true diversity of using concrete, temperature controlled stainless steel and French Oak Barrels for achieving different style. Vineyards is only 10 minutes away from the production area. Entry Fee starts 28.00 Euro. Booking in advance must!
René Barbier: The Real Rock Star of Priorat
"When the heart glows with enthusiasm, you feel like sharing it and as a result you get alternative values. Those values could be found here years ago. At first glance Priorat seems a very hostile place ,but when you live in it, it turns out to be a very snug. In Priorat you can live on just few things, hardly anything. When I came here, I was just married with a Kid, and I was searching for a pure and genuine life. A life style that is: how to make disreputable place, one of the best"
Wines:
Clos Mogador 2015: One of Priorat's great-value wines. The old region captures the intensity and deep connection to the Earth perfectly. Despite being a young vintage when you taste the wine you are already mesmerized how much intensity and flavour the wine can show in this early age. Carnival of bouquet of perfumed blackberry, black cherry, a hint of spice but still ready to mature more. This wine evolves towards to fresh fruit and black pepper in the mouth with a chocolate, vanilla and cherry compote to finish with. From medium to medium + in body, medium acidity from a twist of sobriety to an elegant finish. Great potential for further more ageing. Grenache, Carignan, Cabarnet Sauvigon and Syrah. Aged for 18 months.
Manyetes: "Manyetes" is the name of a place in the village in Grattalops With this Manyetes, René has imposed a passionate challenge on this poor and too sunny soil, at the limit of the survival of the vines." Carignan and Grenache are in the centre stage when it comes to show elegance and in the meantime drama complexity and intensity with deep black fruits flavour. Minerality shines through the tasting note. The real masterpiece of its kind. Not to be missed, well-deserved wine again shows longevity to mature longer what we are expecting.
Nelin: Creation of " Feminine Touch " as René explains the wine. He wanted to create something unique which reaches out for many. "A white wine with twins souls"is produced from Grenache Blanc as the main varietal and a small percentage from Macabeo, Viognier and Escanyavelles. The grapes originate from 4 small estates, planted in slate between 350 to 500 meters above sea level. The vines are carefully worked with the utmost respect for the environment and the grapes, using only organic treatments. The harvest is realized by hand, in small 10 kg capacity containers. The grapes are picked in the first few hours of the morning because of lower temperatures to keep the grapes from oxidizing. Once at the winery, 90% of the grape is pressed and the free run juice is separated. The rest of the grape is macerated for 12 hours before being pressed. Nelín is fermented with local yeast from the same vineyards in oak vats and oak barrels. The fermentation process is controlled at 16-18 ºC lasting for 4-5 weeks. The ageing process lasts for 16 months in large 1200 litres wooden containers and 600 litres concrete container
