Buil & Giné - Introduction

Wine from Priorat has a long reputation for being as they are very good but from the other hand are expensive. Buil & Giné is not exception when it comes to producing a good quality wine. The vineyard is named for Xavi Buil’s grandfather, Joan Giné, who made wine and raised his son and grandson in these dramatic vineyards. The winery itself was established in 1998 in the heart of Priorat, in Gratallops, among the steep slate strewn slopes that the region is famous for. Many of the vines here are 45+ years old and are a stone’s throw from the well -known L’Ermita vineyards that share much of the same terroir. Most of the vineyards face West or North because the soil is protected from the heavy erosion and secondly the vines benefit from the dry Séré wind which protects the vines from the fungi. From the beginning, their wines have been produced with the goal that their offerings should be classic yet approachable in style, but also approachable in terms of price; as a result, their wines show more restraint and balance than other wines that sell for comparable prices. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed: in their Annual Buying Guide, Wine & Spirits Magazine selected Buil & Giné as one of the Wineries of the Year in 2006, 2008 and 2009.

Buil & Giné offers accommodation to all who visit its vineyard. The

building is designed itself as a composition of transparent faces coming together creating the impression of the surface of the regional terroir. " Llicorella " The hotel is not only reflects the nature from outside but inside there are spacious rooms and dining area which is suitable for private hire and wedding celebration,. The top floor with the dining area is creating a sophisticated semi-open space with an outdoor terrace overlooking the vineyard. The vineyard also has their own shop which offers locally produced goodies and merchandisers.

"Et descobrim el Priorat, la màgia de la seva terra, llum i gent a través dels seus elixirs més purs, els vins elaborats i envellits a Buil & Giné."

WINES:

Pleret: The meaning of the word of “Pleret“ is “to enjoy” in Catalan, enjoying the wine step by step. The wine is a blend of Garnatxa, Carignan, Cabarnet Sauvigion, Merlot and Syrah, matured in French oak barrel, giving notable characteristics from this region. Tasting note: Elegant, well - structured Pleret gives its best with “ Grenache Style”, combined with the hint of minerality. Typical Grenache notes blackberries, black cherries, moving towards to more complex spicy flavour. Firm structure of upright, almost fine-grained tannin shows fruitiness still. There is no disappointment. It is at the end a seductive wine ready to mature more.

Giné Giné 2015: There is no questions that the region gives an extraordinary notes to those wines which produced here. Predominately terroir can be one of the main factor which gives a twist in the finishing product. Two grape varieties were used for blending Garnatxa and Carignan According to some of the notes and articles this is created, calling it "first born" from the vineyard. Giné Giné fruity, elegant with of course a hint of minerality. Blueberry and black plum sprang into my mind with floral notes, aromatic herbs, pepper, anise or cinnamon, balsamic touches, toasted hints or touches of patisserie. This wine has good acidity from medium(-) to medium, medium in body and with a medium(+) alcohol level with again medium finish. Cheeky and vibrant wine, can be consumed in young age. You will not be disappointed.
