Torres - Introduction: The recent political debate between the Spanish Government and the Catalan Authority really make a foot stamp for all wine makers in Spain. When you go to Spain, and mention the name of Torres, everyone knows who they are and how important for them to be a leader on the Spanish Market. Winning a scholarship in 2011 through WSET really opened my eyes about regions and about wine in general. The Nick Tarayan’s Bursary was indeed a great experience to all of us who were trying to find their ways in the wine industry. Torres Headquarter located in Vilafranca de Penedes, just outside of Barcelona. It takes approx. 50 -55 minute drive from the city. “The Legacy built through the efforts of five generations” and their success remains the same, based on “team of individuals” committed to one single objective. Creating exceptional wide range of variety of wines demand discipline and dedication from all. Encouraging visitors when they arrive in the vineyard, to be able to experience what does the concept of Torres mean to them. To taste the wine slowly, breath the air and feel the connection between terroir and people there is an unexplained bound. By combining the tradition the company undoubtedly shows constant innovation which leads the legacy of Torres to the future.

Wines:

Mas La Plana 2011: the wine is one of the pioneering wines by Jean Leon, who introduced Cabernet Sauvignon variety to Spain in 1979. Receiving international awards which became Torres Flagship wine. 2011 vintage shows superb characteristics, intense aromas with a typical expression of Mas La Plana terroir with combination of blueberries, blackberries and cherries. From medium to medium(+) in body and intensity, medium alcohol level with an elegant twist, which gives the wine something to shout about. Tannin adds a slight bitterness and astringency to the wine, ageing in 18 months in French oak barrels, truffle notes appears and further more settles for 9 months in the bottle. The wine itself is a full bodied wine again as many complex red with attitude but again ageing can give more complexity. Highly recommended wine goes well with steaks and meaty dishes. Absolutely do not miss.

Torres Fransola: Light and delight in the same time. This light white wine made of two grape varieties , Sauvignon Blanc and Parellada. The grapes are grown from the vines at Finca de Fransola, which is located in 550 metres altitude, providing the perfect environment for the grapes to give their full potential. Local grape variety Parellada contributes lemony freshness to any blends but with Sauvignon Blanc the wine has promising structure with stone fruits characteristics such as peach and apricot. Aged in new American and French oak barrel and furthermore 4 months, taking the tasting note into a higher level. Appearance of the wine lemon colour with medium intensity, dry from light to medium (-) in body again with peach and apricot tasting note. Better to consume when the wine is chilled. Perfect combination with seafood dishes.

Floralis Moscatel Oro: Sweet wine made of Moscatel de Alejandria which ages 4 months in the bottle and 12 months in tank. Dark amber colour wine with intensity of floral, dried fruit apricot, melon, pineapple and fig tasting notes, from medium to medium(+) in body, with high acidity but elegant and refreshing sweet wine could be a perfect companion with any desserts in the hot summer nights. Affordable and delight!
